In the early half of 2020, I backpacked across Asia and Europe by myself, oftentimes joined by friends. Whilst not a preplanned project, it wasn't long after landing in Bangkok and glancing a screen printing street merchant, that the idea hit me. In December, just prior to setting off, I'd released my first Goosbey clothing season - meaning I had, in my possession, a number of new designs ready for the printing.
Fresh off the mesh, I began handing them out to fellow travellers, locals and school friends, in exchange for impromptu photographs in beautiful locations. For the design of the book I took cues from the art styles I'd immersed myself in and the American artist Gabriel Alcala. In a restrained minimalist style, I aimed to marry his deceptively simple illustrations with a similarly flat but more embellished Buddhist technique. The writing for both the blurb and introduction was inspired by the novels I read over there, particularly the descriptive prose of The Alchemist and The Beach.
